Three years ago, all the focus was about how big an influencer's viewers -- how many Instagram"followers" they had. Brands and marketers alike assumed with more followersmeant more earned for every dollar invested, or so they thought.
As marketers navigated their way through the intricate jungle of influencer marketing, a new important metric emerged: the participation rate (ER).
An ER steps how much of an audience is engaged with an influencer's content. A low ER is a cause of concern, yet the cause of which might be a range of things.
Before I tell you how to raise your ER, I'll lay out a few of the main aspects in what can make it become low.
Poor quality articles
Posting too frequently
Not providing value
Number of followers
To calculate your ER, it is possible to use among those free Instagram tools such as the MightyScout engagement rate calculator. It's calculated by adding your comments and enjoys and dividing it from your follower count -- usually given as a result of the average ER over the last 30 posts.
While a 2.5% ER for an influencer with 2,500 followers could be considered low, it would be considered ordinary for you with more than a million followers. That said, let's look at some industry benchmarks. Below is a guideline for an influencer with 10,000 followers:
Less than 2% = Low participation rate.
Between 2% and 4% = Great engagement rate.
Above 4% = High engagement rate.
Why is your engagement rate important?
Like I said, entrepreneurs appreciate this metric and maintain it high when assessing what they'll offer you, or even if they'll contact you in the first place. A bad ER means they are placing their advertising dollars in danger. Whether you use Instagram for company, or on your own, increasing your ER should be top of mind.
Top 6 Strategies to Increase Your Donation Speed
Boost your audience with genuine followers
Among the easiest ways to grow your follower count would be by follow & refollow, which I laid out in my guide to developing your own follower count. Although, this approach should not be relied upon as your heart growth strategy as it attracts the vast majority of bots and other influencers who are simply only after and unfollowing.
I believe building your account to obtain more social signals is important. Having over 10,000 followers gives you more standing. When real Instagrammers land on your profile, they'll be more inclined to follow you.
If you saw my movie on how best to raise your follower count, you would have seen that engaging on niche hashtags with personalized remarks and a powerful call-to-action to accompany you, is one of the best ways to grow an authentic audience which appreciates the content you produce for them.
2. Increase the quality of your content
Certainly one of the most crucial elements in boosting your ER is the level of your content. Ensure that every photo you post is bright, crisp, and also exciting. Additionally, it is no secret that Instagram captions are key to creating engaging content. The caption you write should also include a minumum of one question (rather since the first sentence).
If you doubt your creative ability to curate high quality content, gather inspiration from other successful influencers. Follow those that you hope to be like and also get started copying the content that they create, right down to what's in the backgrounds of their photos and what Instagram filters they use. Did they post a photo licking ice cream with one leg in the air, standing on the sidewalk with a palm tree in the background? Great, copy it.
As you might not consider yourself creative or artistic right now, you are able to replicate individuals who are till you are. These are abilities which may be developed with practice, not an issue of"you either have it, or you don't."
You have the answers to the exam, all you need to do is copy them onto paper.
3. Post according to your audience opinions
In case you haven't already changed your Instagram profile from an individual to a company account, do it now. There are no downfalls to having a business account, nor is it reserved for companies. Among other perks, you're going to get access to audience insights. This will breakdown when your audience is most busy, supplying you with all the best times to upload your posts. But you need to aim to place an hour or two before your summit engagement window, particularly if this window falls 9PM or after. Reason being, your post is only going to be seen for a couple hours before most of your followers will soon be shutting off their phones at night before going to bed.
This way, you are going to allow yourself an hour or two to acquire likes and comments, before hitting your peak engagement window at which you can then ride the Instagram algorithm.
If you are a student of ours, you will have found me preach again and again on providing value for your audience. I have mentioned it before and I will say it again; people don't care about you, they only care about what you could do for them.
Be it entertainment, business training, fitness tips, or technician recommendations -- you have to decide what skill set you have that others may benefit from.
When your audience appears to you for assistance and guidance on a particular topic, they'll obviously be in tune with your content. I use this example a lot, also for good reason:
You are a fashion influencer who specializes in supplying affordable fashion information to working and lower class folk. You educate people how they could dress , without breaking the bank. Your audience loves your articles and seeks your advice -- you supply them value.
However, most fashion influencers simply share their favourite outfits in overly staged photographs using straightforward post captions. There is nothing that makes that influencer unique and their viewer's interest in them frequently stops at appearance.
If you are struggling to find a way to provide value, begin by becoming a student of your craft. More information As you create articles and develop your audience, participate in Facebook groups, masterminds, and subreddits. They say you are the subject of the five people you spend the most time together -- why can't one of those five be whole communities in your area of expertise or interest?
When you are feeling confident enough to begin teaching others your craft, then incorporate it in your content. You can even utilize Instagram Stories to survey our audience to learn what kind of content they would discover valuable.
Quick, simple, and straightforward. Sort through your articles and archive (or delete) any that either doesn't fit the aesthetic of your webpage, or received low engagement. This will immediately increase your ER as these articles will no longer be skewing your numbers.
6. Use market hashtags
You probably use hashtags already, but just how much consideration do you give to which ones you use? The reason hashtags work for many people is because they already have a large account and can appear in the'Top Articles' for that market, or they are smart and choosing niche hashtags.
Create a bank of 3--5 separate lists of 30 hashtags and save them on your telephone's notes or in Google Drive. Immediately after you upload a post, glue them inside the first comment.
If you select just the ones that have been used millions of times, you'll only show up at'Recent' to get a couple of minutes before you are too far down the feed for anybody to locate you.
I'll actually share with you one set of 30 hashtags that we use, here you go:
7. BONUS: Combine engagement pods*
Engagement pods are Direct Message (DM) groups of influencers of up to 32 individuals, who can each share their posts to the group to possess another members go into enjoy and comment on their posts.
It is possible to find these pods by looking on Reddit or inside Facebook Groups. They're simple enough to locate within a couple of minutes.
While these may be effective, they do have their downfalls. It is common practice to article generic comments like"OMG I want this" on class member's sponsored posts, which can be easily spotted by manufacturers. When the only people commenting on a place are different influencers, it's apparent that they are active in engagement pods.
They will also be time consuming as you'll frequently have to like and remark on dozens of articles each day. Who would like to open their Instagram app and find they have 87 posts they need to enjoy and comment on? Not I. click here If I were you, I'd simply use them to kickstart your expansion and then ditch them once you've got momentum.
What's the buzz about Instagram automation tools?
Do not. Did Instagrammers not learn their lesson when Instagram banned countless accounts for buying enjoys and comments? All these Instagram bot automation tools are not just expensive, they do not promise any results and are often conducted by 17 year old, self-proclaimed marketing professionals. They're also against Instagram's Conditions of Service, which means there is a high risk of being caught in one of their mass accounts cleanups they do a few times each year.
How would you prefer to spend all the time and money growing an Instagram account through automation tools, simply to open the app one day and see that your account was banned? I really don't imagine you'd discover that enjoyable.
